Education

  • Ph.D., Bioengineering, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, 1998.
  • Cert. Orthotics, Northwestern University, Chicago, 1983.
  • B.F.A., Fine Arts, Wayne State University, Detroit, 1982.

Research Interests

Dr. Kogler is the Director of the Clinical Biomechanics Laboratory (CBL) in the School of Applied Physiology. His primary interest is learning how foot orthoses influence the loading mechanics of the foot in standing and walking. He has studied the use of arch supports, wedges, metatarsal supports and heel elevation. In addition, he is studying the effect the shape and geometry of foot orthoses has on plantar foot pressures. Dr. Kogler is also involved with integration and development of fluid power technologies for use in Ankle-Foot Orthoses (AFO’s) for gait stabilization. This project is being conducted in conjunction with the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign as a test bed for the Center for Compact an Efficient Fluid Power (CCEFP). Dr. Kogler is involved in biomechanical research studies on ophthalmic prosthetics (artificial eyes). His investigations focus on the prosthetic factors that influence motility of ocular prostheses.
