A Ph.D. program stands on three pillars: research, curriculum, and teaching.
Research
Independent research is the heart of a science doctorate. Research in the School of Applied Physiology at Georgia Tech is organized around the physiology of movement: motor planning and control, the mechanics of movement, and the physiological responses to activity. Our small faculty offers students the unique opportunity to focus in a traditional physiological specialty while integrating fundamental concepts from related fields. Students will work closely with a research advisor to develop their projects, and prospective students are encouraged to identify and contact potential advisors early in the application process.

Curriculum
A strong, yet flexible curriculum provides students with the fundamental knowledge and skills they need to be successful, independent professionals. Our students participate in a core curriculum that provides an integrated understanding of physiology and a base of quantitative tools and research processes. Beyond that core, students have full flexibility to assemble their own program from our own focused physiology courses as well as offerings by diverse other Schools on campus.
Teaching
Regardless of a graduate's career aspirations, he or she will be in a position to educate-students, employees, policy makers, or clients. We are committed to helping students develop the tools they need to communicate their specialized knowledge to a naive audience. Students get experience in all aspects of teaching, from developing content to delivering lectures through our teaching practicum.
